April the Tapir is the oldest living tapir in captivity. She is a Baird's Tapir. She lives at Belize Zoo, in Belize. She is twenty nine years old. She was born on the 27th April 1983. That date is now National Tapir Day in Belize, and of World Tapir Day globally. The Baird's tapir is the national animal of Belize. April first came to the zoo in 1983 when she was very ill from screwworm infestation. Sharon Matola, the keeper at the zoo, nursed her back to health.<ref name="7News Apr2008" /> Every year a birthday party is held to celebrate April's birthday. In 2012 she was given four cakes made out of horse chow, honey, cucumbers and flowers.<ref name="News5 Apr2012" />
