Aparimit

Aparimit is the annual astronomy festival of the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology. Its meaning is limitless. The festival was initiated because of the continuous efforts of Dr. Anandmayee Tej, faculty IIST. It was first held on April 1-2,2009. Coincidentally the year 2009 was also declared as the International Year of Astronomy. Aparimit provides a platform for the students to show enthusiasm and zeal for astronomy and other related activities. The festival is also aimed at creating interest and awareness abut the astronomy among the general public.
Events
There are various events being organized in Aparimit providing a vast exposure of astronomy.
Astro Reflection
The students are invited to make a scientific poster(related to astronomy) of their choice in a group of maximum 5 people. If there poster is selected they get a chance to present their poster in the grand arena of 'Aparimit.'
Doorbeen
Whenever we think about astronomy the first picture which comes in our mind is of a telescope. Doorbeen is a mini workshop on telescope making and astronomy.
Rendezvous with Stars
This is a night sky session in which people get an opportunity to watch the night sky with the help of telescopes of various sizes.
Star Warz
This is a quiz competition of astronomy.
Taramandal
The days have gone when the astronomers had to do a lot of calculations for getting the exact position of planets or they had to spend their valuable time in searching star charts for getting their location. Use of various softwares have made their life simple. Taramandal is a software demo session in which students are taught about how to simulate the space.
Panoramix
Panoramix is a video session in which various high quality videos(related to astronomy) are displayed.
Talks
Apart from the above events various talks are organized in Aparimit. In 'Aparimt 09' famous astro physcisit Professor Jayant Vishnu Narlikar gave a talk on "Amazing world of Astronomy". Dr. P Sreekumar from ISRO gave a talk on "Exploration of Universe from Space".
