Robot Astronomy Talk Show

Robot Astronomy Talk Show (RATS for short) is a podcast produced by NASA's Spitzer Space Telescope and distributed as part of its IRrelevant Astronomy feed.

The basic premise of RATS is that a group of robots on a space station produce a talk show, calling real-life astronomers, while trying to find ways to take over the Universe. Episodes typically end with their plan failing in a spectacular manner.

Characters

IR-2: Host of the show, and the only robot who actually speaks on-camera.

Producer-Bot: The robot who actually runs the show, he(?) communicates only by typing messages onto the monitor behind IR-2.

Tuba-Bot: The show's "band," this robot communicates through interpretive tuba music.

Gaffer-Bot: Mysteriously silent, Gaffer-Bot is presumably responsible for the show's lighting.

Episodes

Episode 1: Asteroids: In this episode the robots call astronomer Erin Ryan, in the hopes of learning how long it will take for an asteroid to destroy all life on Earth so that they can claim their rightful title as rulers of the Universe.

Episode 2: Water in the Universe: In this episode the robots call Caltech astronomer Geoff Blake, searching for enough water to fill an aquarium large enough to contain all the Universe's fish.

Episode 3: Baby Stars: The robots learn about star formation from Spitzer Space Telescope astronomer Sean Carey, while a Ratings-Bot monitors their "Steelson Ratings" in realtime.

Episode 4: Omega Centauri: While the robots are away, Spitzer Space Telescope astronomer Gordon Squires calls in hoping to discuss a new image.

Episode 5: The Building Blocks of Life: Taking time away from the application to become absolute rulers of the Universe, the robots chat with Hubble Space Telescope astronomer Karl Gordon about how life might evolve in the Universe.
