History
Andrew James Radford born 8th September 1962, Royal Army Medical Hospital to James and Patricia Radford. Andy spent most of his early life travelling across the world with his father, who was in the Army. He became interested in the countryside from an early age and worked for a long time as a ranger in The Peak District national park. Upon leaving the park, he set up his own landscape gardening business working on residential and contracted projects throughout North-East Wales. The foot and mouth crisis hit Andy's business hard, causing him to seek alternate work. It was this point he decided to write a book. Upon the success of his first work he was commissioned to write further literature. His completed works to date include 6 books and numerous articles. His books are practical guides which enable the inexperienced farmer or small holder to construct or repair dry stone walls, fences, horse stables and many others. His first book, A guide to Dry Stone Walling was first published in 2001 by The Crowood Press and became the best selling basic dry stone walling practical guide in the UK, going into reprint several times. Crowood later approached Andy to create a DVD companion for this book.
