Andre Akpan is an American soccer forward currently playing for Harvard University and the fourth division Westchester Flames. He was a member of the United States U-20 men's national soccer team at the 2007 FIFA U-20 World Cup.
Youth Akpan was a member of the Dallas Texans 88 Red team which won three national championships, including the 2007 McGuire Cup (national U-19 championship). Akpan was selected as the tournament's Golden Boot. Akpan also played soccer at The Oakridge School, a preperatory school in Arlington, Texas, where he was a two time captain and team MVP. He holds the school record of 111 career goals. In addition to soccer, he also ran track.
College In 2006, Akpan entered Harvard University where he plays on the men's soccer team. He was the 2006 Ivy League rookie of the year and first team All Ivy League. In 2007, he was a second team NSCAA All American.
Club During the 2008 collegiate off-season, Akpan signed with the Westchester Flames of the fourth division Premier Development League.
National team Akpan was a member of the United States U-20 men's national soccer team at the 2007 FIFA U-20 World Cup. Played only one game at the tournament when he came on for Jozy Altidore in the 51st minute in the U.S. victory over Uruguay in the Round of 16.
