Anar Alizade

Anar Alizade is an Azerbaijani businessman managing numerous companies operating in the oil, construction, commercial and industrial sectors of Azerbaijan, UAE, Turkey and Singapore. He is the owner and the CEO of "Union Grand Energy", the founder of "Baku Business Factory", and one of the founders of "SOCAR Trading SA" (other founders: SOCAR and Valery Golovushkin).
Life
Anar Alizade was born in September 21, 1978 in Nakhchivan. After graduating from high school, in 1996-2000 Anar studied at the Nakhchivan State University and received Bachelor’s degree in economics. Later he pursued a postgraduate degree (as a second education) in management at .
He started to take his first steps in business in the late 90s, engaging in delivery and sale of various goods from Turkey in Nakhchivan, the Republic of Azerbaijan. Then he engaged in the import of cars and family business of passenger transportation.
In early 2000, Anar Alizade arrived in Baku and began expanding his business in the capital. Anar effectively invested his primary capital accumulated by him and his family from activities in the field of trade between Turkey and Nakhchivan, into the real estate market in Baku. A few years later, a sharp rise in the price of real estate brought him a substantial profit.
In mid 2000s, Anar Alizade started building trade relations with the UAE. Anar Alizade created one of the first Azerbaijani investment companies in the UAE by engaging in production and sale of computers and electronic equipment.
After some time, Anar Alizade united all his companies to create the "Union Grand Energy" group of companies, which was incorporated and established under the laws of Singapore in 2007. He declared it in Azerbaijan and opened a representative office.
Oil sector
Anar’s entrepreneurial activities in the UAE raised his interest in the oil sector. Thus, he established "Grand" Ltd Company selling oil equipment and technical services to local oil companies. Consequently, Anar’s successes in this area have made him a reliable partner of SOCAR. This partnership led to the creation of SOCAR Trading SA engaged in the sale of "Azeri Light" oil on the global market. Anar initially held 25% stake in SOCAR Trading SA. In addition, he has been a member of the Board of Directors for 6 years. In 2012, his shares in SOCAR Trading SA were purchased by the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR).
Union Grand Energy
Union Grand Energy is a private company which was incorporated and established by Anar Alizade under the laws of Singapore in 2007, when a number of companies, operating predominantly in the oil and energy sector were united to create Union Grand Energy Group. Anar chose Singapore as it was one of the most transparent and business-friendly countries, and subsequently opened a registered representative office in Azerbaijan. By doing this, Anar Alizade voluntarily disclosed his international business activities to the official structures and became one of the first law-obeying Azerbaijani businessmen who paid large-scale taxes on profits earned abroad.
Awards and achievements
In December 2014, Anar Alizade was awarded the prize of "Man of the Year - Business reputation” by 'Business Time' magazine.
In addition, in March 2016 Anar Alizade has been conferred 'Azeri Business Award 2015'. The award was presented to Anar Alizade on the nomination of 'Business Initiative of the Year' for his establishment of the Baku Business Factory, which supports business initiatives of youth.
In October 2020, following hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh, Anar Alizade donated two million manat to the Azerbaijan Armed Forces Fund to support the Azerbaijani army fighting for the liberation of territories occupied by Armenia. This donation makes Anar the largest donor to the Armed Forces Assistance Fund in Azerbaijan.
In addition, to help the treatment of wounded servicemen, Anar also brought to the country a batch of 3,500 special medical devices, known as Ilizarov apparatus. This medical equipment is of great importance for military hospitals in war conditions as it offers an effective means for long-term fixation of individual bone fragments, reducing damage to bone tissue. The use of these apparatus will allow Azerbaijan to quickly restore the health of many of its wounded soldiers.
Baku Business Factory
In April 2015 Anar founded Baku Business Factory (BBF), which supports the youth through provision of office space in BBF, mentor's assistance, financial support as well as access to different training programmes. BBF's mission is to develop business-thinking of young people and provide them with financial base to form new business skills in Azerbaijan.
Anar is convinced that one chance is enough for a young Azerbaijani, who has an interesting idea, to succeed.
In October 2016, Baku Business Factory extended its reach globally by expanding its ties with British companies, following a meeting with representatives of the British Embassy to Azerbaijan.
Other
Currently, Anar Alizade leads several companies in Azerbaijan, United Kingdom, United Arab Emirates, Turkey and Singapore, operating in the oil, construction, trading and manufacturing sectors. His main activities in Azerbaijan are aimed at increasing oil production in the old oil fields, onshore drilling of new wells and equipping them with modern equipment, participation in the "Baku White City" project and support for business initiatives among young people. He is also active in investing in various investment projects in real estate, agriculture and manufacturing businesses in Azerbaijan.
