Anacreon Province

The Anacreon Province was an administrative division within Isaac Asimov's Galactic Empire. The third largest administrative division in Asimov's Imperium, the province was made up of a grouping of prefects, and was itself part of a sector.

Anacreon Province was once one of the richest provinces in the Galactic Periphery. Salvor Hardin said it compared favourably with Vega Province, evidently a very high standard. Five possible prefects are known to have existed within the Anacreon Province prior to its separation from the Galactic Empire.

Anacreon Prefect
The wealthiest prefect of Anacreon Province, the Anacreon Prefect was the first periphery prefect to rebel successfully against Imperial rule. Soon after, it fought a war with the newly declared Kingdom of Smyrno. Throughout its independence, the Kingdom of Anacreon remained the most powerful of the Four Kingdoms that emerged from the province.

The only statistics known about the Kingdom of Anacreon, and the preceding prefect, come from Salvor Hardin's visit to the Kingdom of Anacreon in 80 F.E, 30 years after its revolution. Though the kingdom closely followed the borders of the old prefect, the statistics cannot accurately describe the imperial prefect prior to 50 F.E., it is stated that after 30 years the kingdom was only a shadow of the prefect. The technological recession that came with the collapse of imperial control resulted in a drastic population loss, and after its original declaration of independence it lost two stellar systems in war to the Kingdom of Smyrno.

Smyrno Prefect
The Smyrno Prefect was one of four prefects that rebelled against the Empire circa 50 F.E. Soon after its independence, the Kingdom of Smyrno fought a war with the Kingdom of Anacreon, which ended in stalemate, though Smyrno gained two stellar systems. Notable for being the birthplace of Hober Mallow.

Unconfirmed Prefects
In addition to Anacreon and Smyrno, there are references within the Foundation novels to three other prefects within the Anacreon province: Loris, Daribow, and Konom. At separate times, each is stated be one of the Four Kingdoms, the four national entities which emerged within the Anacreon Province after the prefects rebelled; it is currently unknown how the mention of five kingdoms reconciles with the statement that there are four kingdoms and which, if any, were once prefects.

Loris Prefect
One of the Four Kingdoms, mentioned only in name. It is located close to Terminus, its territory considered the inner line of defense when the Foundation was at war the Bel Riose and the Empire.

Daribow Prefect
One of the Four Kingdoms, mentioned only in name.

Konom Prefect
One of the Four Kingdoms, mentioned only in name.
