Amy Chanthaphavong

Amy Chanthaphavong is the Host and Executive Producer of I AM Amarai, a web-show about ordinary people bravely facing their journeys with authenticity, vulnerability, and passion. By capturing the lives of individuals and groups or organizations, avenues of Hope & Love (Charity) are created through the art of cinematic storytelling.
Amy Chanthaphavong is also the first Laotian-American woman to be crowned Miss Asian America, the longest running Asian pageant in the U.S., in 2009. As Queen, Amy traveled across the United States and abroad as a role model, goodwill ambassador and a leader in the Asian American community. With a passion to serve her community, Amy has participated in cultural festivities, fashion shows, award ceremonies, red carpet events, as well as co-directed the first Miss Lao International Pageant and fundraised for numerous charities.
In 2010, she was given the opportunity to serve as the Mistress of Ceremonies and produced a charity concert in Laos for the Lao International Foundation for Poverty Alleviation (LIFPA), an NGO that works to fight poverty in rural areas of Laos.
As Miss Asian America, Amy has actively utilized her title to bring awareness to issues that are dear to her heart, such as Human Trafficking, Education, Preservation of the Family Unit and her parents’ native country - Laos. Amy is also passionate about storytelling, technology, business, fashion, entrepreneurship, social change, design thinking and art in various forms.
Biography
Amy was born in San Diego, California to immigrant parents who taught her to love and embrace her Lao culture from a young age.
She received her Bachelor of Science from the University of San Francisco where she majored in Political Science and minored in Business. While in college, Amy interned for Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi in her constituent office. Amy always had a knack for fashion and beauty and to further pursue her dreams, Amy studied design in New York City at Parsons, the New School for Design, home to famous designers such as Donna Karen, Marc Jacobs, Alexander Wang and Tom Ford.
