American Power Systems, Inc. American Power Systems, Inc. (APS) is a manufacturer of motive power supplies and rotating power supplies for DC and AC high power applications based in Davenport, IA. They manufacture products to power mobile chassis for bus, transit, RV, car stereo, law enforcement and military market segments. History American Power Systems' history can be traced back to 1925 in Davenport, Iowa by the Buesing family during the depression. A local armature winder for Model T generators in Davenport had gone bankrupt and the Buesings acquired the business by bank foreclosure and began operations after assessing tools and equipment needs. The three brothers of the Buesing family, Stan, Dale and Dave began operations rebuilding at that time automotive generators found in most of the cars at that time. Buesing's specialty was restoring back to full operation the very complex DC generators for Cadillac, Buick, DeSoto, Chevrolet and Ford. In the 1980s John Deere approached Buesings with the proposal to rebuild the John Deere tractor line of starters and alternators which had experienced field failures. Buesings took on the contract and begin John Deere service parts re-manufacturing for the JDM division of John Deere at the time run by the Milan operations PDC. Buesings continued to expand its re-manufacturing to include starters and alternators made by Delco, Leece-Neville, A.C. Niehoff and Denso. In 1997 Buesings elected to sell off the Denso portion of its re-manufacturing to a group known as M and K Industries. It sold its commercial division to another investor Rod Schwietzer Group. In 2001 the M and K Industries company was sold to American Armature, Inc. In 2004, American Armature, Inc. faced with increasing demand for custom designed power products for military and armored vehicles created a new division called American Power Systems, Inc. The design and packaging of mobile power supplies of high amperage became the focus of American Power Systems, Inc. In 2005 American Power Systems, Inc became an independent company from American Armature. HO Alternators A subsidiary of American Power Systems: HO Alternators was created to provide high output alternators for the custom car audio market. They provided alternators for vehicles on the television show Unique Whips. They also have been associated with dB drag racing circuit. Government In December 2009, American Power Systems became a GSA multiple schedule company the contract number GS-30F-0013W .
