Village Candle is an manufacturer of handmade candles, headquartered in Topsham, Maine, Maine. Paul Aldrich founded the company in 1993, when he pursued his long-time hobby of candle making as a business. The company began unexpectedly when a Pennsylvania candle store placed the first order to Aldrich upon seeing various candles that he had made for his friends and family. Today, Village Candle is considered one of the most successful businesses in Maine, and averages over 100% growth per year.
In 1994, Village Candle’s production moved from Aldrich’s house in Topsham, Maine to the Sparhawk Mill, located in Yarmouth, Maine. Village Candle moved its factory in 1996 to the larger Fort Andross Mill, which is located in Brunswick, Maine. In 1998, Village Candle moved back to Topsham, Maine, and into the custom-designed factory that it still inhabits today. The Village Candle Factory Store is the largest candle store in Maine.
In 2008, Village Candle created a new line of environmentally friendly soy candles. These soy candles are neither toxic nor carcinogenic.
