Alta Ventures Mexico

Alta Ventures Mexico is an early-stage venture capital firm based in Nuevo León, Mexico. The company was co-founded in 2009 by Paul Ahlstrom, who was also a co-founder of the venture capital firms vSpring Capital and Alta Growth Capital and founding partner Rogelio de los Santos, a serial entrepreneur with two decades of entrepreneurial experience starting and investing in the Mexico companies.
The company invests in biotechnology, health care, business products and services, Clean Technology, IT Services, Medical Devices and Equipment and software companies. According to the company website, over the past ten years the Alta Ventures Mexico management team has invested in over 30 companies, including some of the leaders in the education, life science, and information technology sector.
As part of its initiative to jump-start the venture capital industry in Mexico, Alta Ventures started the Alta Innovation Institute which in turn launched the Monterrey Venture Capital Conference (MVCC). The first MVCC meeting was held on April 21, 2010 and was successful in bringing the Mexican venture capital ecosystem together for the first time.
Investment funds
In 2011, Alta Ventures Mexico raised technology focused venture capital fund based in Monterrey Mexico. Alta Ventures investments range from as little as $50,000 to as much as $5 or $10 million. Typically they invest $2 to $3 million initially to start early stage growth companies.
The sister company Alta Growth Capital is focused on growth equity investments in Mexican middle market companies that are benefiting from Mexico’s domestic growth and demographics. Alta Growth Capital invests in companies that have between US$10 and US$100 million in revenues and typically invests between US$10 and US$20 million.
