Aloriah is a online strategy browser game set in a medieval world of Norse Mythology. It is free to play, supported by an optional micropayment business model. Aloriah is programmed in PHP and Javascript, utilizing HTML5 technologies such as Canvas and AJAX. It runs in most modern browsers such as Firefox, Google Chrome, Safari and Opera. Internet Explorer is not supported unless the plug-in Google Chrome Frame is installed. Aloriah has been developed since 2009 by the Swedish game development company Devillusion. The game entered beta testing in May, 2010 and was released in September, 2010. It was also the first real-time strategy browser game developed by a Swedish game development company. Gameplay Aloriah is is the name of the world where players start out controlling a Viking civilization. Each player is given a village in the starting climate zone. The goal of the game of the players is to settle new villages in other climate zones, grow their civilization and eventually be strong enough to fulfill the goals defined by the scenario they are playing. At the moment the only scenario available is the one where the world has been invaded by ancient dragons. Achievements can be collected during the game round by fulfilling sub-goals. Aloriah is played in game rounds, where each game round could take up to several months to complete. When the goals of a scenario has been fulfilled the game round ends, civilizations are wiped out and players are given the chance to start out from the beginning in a new game round. Achievements that have been collected during a round are however saved onto the account of the players, thereby following the players into any future game round.
