Allen Soule

Allen Soule (December 14, 1923) is an American WWII veteran, actor and historian.

Biography

Soule graduated from Randolph High School in 1941 and served in the US Army Air Corps from 1943 to 1946. He graduated from Goddard College in 1950 with a degree in Sociology. He spent the next few years interacting with artists and actors in New York City, including Steve McQueen, and abstract artists Robert Fisher and Jimmy Gahagan. He returned to Vermont and became the Vermont State Historian, serving from 1953 until 1963 and was the editor of three volumes of the State Papers of Vermont.

In the mid 1960s Soule founded Elmhill, and in the 1970's Maplehill, both Group Homes for troubled State children. He served as Director of the combined Elmhill Inc. (a non-profit) for over two decades. In 1976, he ran for Vermont State Representative for Calais, Marshfield, Cabot, losing by a narrow margin.

Since the 1980's, Allen has been a DJ for WGDR and developed and presented his own show, Keyboard Classics. Soule is also an actor and member of S.A.G., often appearing with speaking parts in films by fellow Goddard College graduate David Mamet.
