Alive Radio

Alive Radio is a community radio station for Dumfries, south west Scotland, broadcasting around the world on www.aliveradio.net, and within Dumfries and surrounding areas on 107.3FM. The station is also relayed to patients of Dumfries & Galloway Infirmary through the Hospedia system, and is available via a downloadable App.
Alive Radio is the broadcasting arm of Alive Christian Media. The station's on-air output is branded as "Alive 107.3", not to be confused with the internet radio station "Alive Radio". The stations are unconnected.
Alive 107.3's concept of community radio is given on the homepage of their website - "Community radio is all about supporting a community, helping it grow and develop in a healthy way. That’s what we’re doing here at Alive."
Daytime shows include "Medd in the Morning" hosted by Lee Medd every Monday to Thursday between 7am - 9am, "Mark in the Morning" hosted by Mark Hutton every Friday between 7am - 9am, Alive Brunch hosted by Kenny Murray every Monday - Friday between 9am and 12pm, and Drivetime between 4pm and 6pm. Daytime programmes include discussions, interviews, news and a range of music.
The evening is focused on specialist shows for music genres, features, and sports. Popular evening shows include the Thursday Night Showcase with Melissa Gunn from 6pm - 7pm every Thursday (which promotes Dumfries and Galloway musicians, along with Scottish up and coming acts), Deep Fried Soul every Monday between 9pm - 11pm (soul music), and Folk 'n' Stuff every Tuesday between 9pm - 11pm.
The station is entirely run by volunteers and has no paid members of staff. The organisational structure is made up of a Board of Directors, a Management Team (consisting of a Station Manager, Programming Manager, Marketing & PR Manager, Events & Facilities Manager and a Fundraising Manager), and a team of presenters.
Alive radio upholds a Christian ethos, so that while secular content is permitted, content considered contrary to Christian values is not allowed.
History
Alive Christian Radio was formed in 2004 by local Christian worker, David Currie and Church pastor, Mark Smith.
The first broadcast period used a 28-day Restricted Service Licence during July and August 2004, on 87.7FM and online through aliveradio.net. Over 50 people were involved in the project, mainly as presenters. In 2005 the project was launched again with even greater levels of success, and encouraged by this it was decided to run once again in 2006.
On 11 May 2007 approval for a Community Radio Licence by Ofcom was confirmed. Broadcasting on 107.3fm began on 1 September 2009.
The full-time broadcast proved to be different from the original restricted licence broadcasts in terms of Christian content. The bias of the output shifted from serving Christians within the community to serving the community as a whole. In May 2014, the station's application for licence renewal was approved, allowing it to broadcast for a further 5 years.
