Uday Ali Pabrai is an Indian-American entrepreneur based in Irvine, California, and a subject matter expert on information security and regulatory compliance standards. He is chairman and chief executive officer of ecfirst, an Inc. 500 business headquartered in Des Moines, Iowa. Previously, Mr. Pabrai founded Net Guru Technologies (NGT) in 1994. NGT was acquired by a NASDAQ-based firm in 1997. He launched his career in 1983 with Schumberger, a leading oilfield services provider, in Dubai as an Associate Accountant. In 1987 he started his career in the United States at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (Fermilab), U.S. Department of Energy. Pabrai established the world’s first certification program that comprehensively addresses global compliance standards and regulations in the area of information security - the Certified Security Compliance Specialist (CSCS). Mr. Pabrai successfully developed leading certification credentials in the world, including CIW (over 100,000 certificates issued), Security Certified Program (SCP), and the HIPAA Academy’s CHP and CHSS. He is also the author of several best selling industry books, including Internet & TCP/IP Network Security and Getting Started with HIPAA. Mr. Pabrai was awarded Entrepreneur of the Year by the Illinois Indian Chamber of Commerce in 1997 and nominated for Ernst & Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year award, 1997. He is also a member of the U.S. FBI InfraGard. Mr. Pabrai has a Bachelor of Science degree from Clemson University in Computer Engineering and a Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT).
