The Al-bin-Ghatam family, as some know them today in Bahrain branch back to their late grandfather sheik Ahmad bin Khalifa Alkhalifa also known as Bin Ghatam .Ahmad's father ,khalifa, was a ghatam (mute) and this is where the name came from.He is one of the senior figures of the Al-Khalifa family. Him and the son of his maternal aunt, the late sheik Isa bin Ali Al-Khalifa, ruler of Bahrain from 1869 until his tragic death in 1932 , both share a maternal grandfather as their mothers are both daughters of Isa Bin-atreef the leader of the Al-Bin-Ali tribe. Imam Saud bin Faisal bin Turki Al-Saud the son of Imam Faisal bin Turki Al-Saud the founder of the 1st Saudi state, Rose to his quest in conquering the Arabian peninsula and establishing the 2nd Saudi state. One of his main challengers was his own brother Abdulallah bin Turki Al-Saud financed and supported by the Ottoman Empire (Turkey). Saud bin Faisal Al-Saud has asked for military and financial help from leaders of the main tribes such as the Al-Ajman and Al-Murraa .He also asked the rulers of Bahrain for help but the senior British officials in Bahrain at that time have prevented sheik Isa bin Ali Al-Khalifa to do so. However sheik Ahmad bin Khalifa or bin Ghatam, opposed the decision made by the british and arouse with a group of his men to travel to Qatar and from their to the Arabian Peninsula (Saudi Arabia) .From there he supourted imam Saud bin Faisal in many allied victorious battle such as the battle of Jouda and wajaj that resulted in conquering areas in the southern porivince such as the alqateef and hassa that stretched out until the present day capital of Riyahd. The main goal of the partnership of shiek Ahmad bin Khalifa AlKhalifa in these battles is to insure the prevention of any future battles between Saud bin Faisal Al-Saud and Bahrain and to ensure Bahrains independence from other countries that pose a threat. This effective partnership has resulted in the newly crowned Imam Saud bin Turki Al-Saud to set sheik Ahmad bin Khalifa the ruler of Albidaa (present day Doha) and presenting him with the infamous sword of Al-ajrab thanking him for his help and much needed support. This sword has been in the protection of sheik Ahmad bin khalifa's sons and daughters .From his daughter sheika Sarah bint Ahmad bin Khalifa, she went on to give the sword to the next generation from her husband sheik Khalifa bin Mohammed bin Khalifa (son of the ruler of Bahrain). Her sons have been protecting this valuable artifact. The custodian of the Two holy mosques , King Abdulallah bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud has been gifted this priceless sword in a historical visit to the kingdom of Bahrain. short refrence http://bashaaralhadi.blogspot.com/search?q=%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%BA%D8%AA%D9%85 http://www.alarabiya.net/articles/2010/05/05/107760.html
