His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin King Faisal I bin Al Hussein Bin Ali El-Hashemite (b. 1930 in Iraq) is the second son of King Faisal I of Iraq (d. 1933). He is a member of the Hashemite dynasty and therefore a descendant of the Islamic prophet Muhammad. Activities since 1958 On July 14, 1958 a coup occurred in Iraq, which effectively dissolved Hashemite rule in the country, At the time, Prince Mohammed was away, travelling in Egypt. As of today, he is considered the sole legitimate heir to the Hashemite throne in Iraq. Prince Mohammed has remained in exile from Iraq since 1958. He backed away from politics and put all the efforts to the development of education, scientific research, culture and social work in the Arab world and the third world countries as president of the Royal Academy of Science International Trust (RASIT), which he founded in 1968. Prince Mohammed is married to the honorable Fatima Hashemi, and has three sons, Adel, Adnan and Ahmad: and one daughter, Nasreen.
