Alexander Hannett

Alexander "Alex" Hannett (born February 6, 1984) is an American marketing professional and non-profit board member in Miami, Florida. He is currently the head of the marketing department at All Florida Paper, an Inc. 5000 company, and is on the Alumni Board of Directors of Barry University. On June 13, 2014, Hannett was named the 2014 Bronze Stevie® Winner for Marketing Professional of the Year at the Stevie Awards 12th Annual American Business Awards held at Millennium Park, in downtown Chicago. He has been featured in national publications, including The Wall Street Journal - MarketWatch, Thomson Reuters, The Miami Herald, and The Boston Globe among others.
Background and education
Alexander Hannett was born and raised in Warrenton, Virginia, with four brothers and two sisters. He attended , and later, enrolled at Barry University in Miami Shores, Florida, where he attended both undergraduate and graduate schools - eventually graduating with a Master's degree in sports management.
As an undergraduate student at Barry University, Hannett began his career as an intern with the Miami-Dade County Parks and Recreation Department, which is the third largest county parks system in the United States. Later, as a graduate student in sports management, he was selected to participate in the 2009 United States Olympic Committee Internship Program in Colorado Springs, Hannett was selected from a pool of over 2,000 applications that the Olympic Committee receives annually for the program. His interest in marketing started off as a hobby in 2004, and by 2008, began teaching himself about the field using Google, and with time crafted a skill.
Career
Hannett started his marketing career in 2008, when he co-founded The Barry University Network, a collection of 12 professional networking "Groups" on LinkedIn with more than 5,200 Barry University alumni (as of March 2013). Hannett's endeavor gave Barry University its first presence on the social networking site. It was reported that from 2008 to 2012, more than 200 people had found jobs and/or business opportunities through The Barry University Network. Today, it serves as a place where "students can reach out to future employers, such as The Walt Disney Company, American Express, the U.S. House of Representatives, and the Miami Heat" among others. In Fall 2012, Hannett donated control of the network to Barry, transitioning it to the official LinkedIn presence for the University.
