Alexander Augustus

Alexander Augustus (born 1988) is a visual artist, known predominantly for his A Dangerous Figure series and the OH MY GOD sculpture and film series. Augustus had his first major solo show at Somerset House at the age of 24.
Life and work
Augustus was born in Cardiff.
A Dangerous Figure (2013) was exhibited initially in Somerset House, opposite the UK Houses of Parliament, and attempted to place pressure on the UK Government concerning rising young unemployment figures and unpaid internships. The viral artwork was a user-generated portrait of the young unemployed, made by the young unemployed, collating selfies of UK unemployed participants under the age of 30 with custom-built computer vision technology. Political author and commentator Owen Jones contributed to this artwork, writing "Youth unemployment is a robbery. If you're unemployed at a young age, you're more likely to be without work at a later age, and to have lower wages for the rest of your life: "scarring", they call it. That's why we need to give young unemployed a voice, to organise people so we can transform lives, and to give people hope." The pair have created artworks and led workshops in the UK, Germany and South Korea since 2012, most notably lecturing for Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, and The Korean Advanced Institute of Science and Technology.<ref name="auto1"/>
