Alex Seton

Alex Seton is a contemporary Australian artist who works with photography, video, sculpture and installation. He is particularly known for rendering soft ephemeral forms, such as flags, hoodies, inflatables and blankets out of white marble. Through this juxtaposition of hard and soft; permanent and impermanent, the artist also investigates the history of marble as a monumental medium.
Art
His work addresses contemporary issues from asylum seeker policy to commemorating military service and sacrifice. He often re-creates everyday objects in marble thus symbolically converting the ephemeral into the permanent. Seton created an ongoing series of marble sculptures, "As of today…" to commemorate those Australians who have lost their lives in Afghanistan.
