Alex Pyron

R. Alexander Pyron (born 1988) is an American evolutionary biologist, herpetologist and a post-doctoral research fellow at Stony Brook University in New York City.
Alex grew up in Demorest, Georgia, with his parents Greg and Elizabeth Pyron, where he attended public school until 4th grade. Because he was not challenged enough, his mother took to home-schooling him for two years at which Alex took the ACT. His ACT scores were high enough for him to enter and gain acceptance into Piedmont College at age 12. Alex graduated in 2004 with a bachelor of science degree in biology at age 16. During his time at CSI, he received numerous grants for research studies including ones from the American Museum of Natural History Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Fund, the American Philosophical Society and one from the National Science Foundation Post-Doctoral Research Foundation in Informatics which allowed him to do further research at Stony Brook.<ref name="csitoday"/>
In January 2011, Alex will become the Robert F Griggs assistant professor of biology at George Washington University (GWU). The program at GWU runs a graduate program in his field of evolution jointly with the National Museum of Natural History at the Smithsonian. <ref name="featured-grad"/>
