Early days
Henshall joined his hometown club Swindon Town when he was just eight years old and he begun under the coaching of Jeremy Newton, who is now Swindon Town's Centre of Excellence Manager. Even at this young age it was clear to the Swindon Town coaching staff that he was going to become a talented player and this lead to Swindon offering Henshall a four-year contract when he was only 12 years old.
Swindon Town
Henshall came to prominence during his time with the Swindon Town youth team during their trip to the Northern Ireland Milk Cup in July 2009, where he captained the Swindon side to the Quarter-Finals of the competition. His impressive performances did not go unnoticed by Swindon Town manager Danny Wilson as Henshall was soon promoted to the Swindon Town reserves. Henshall continued his run of impressive performances which earned him a suprise inclusion in Danny Wilson's first team selection for Swindon Town's match on 6th October 2009 against Exeter City in the second round of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy, despite his inclusion in the squad he only appeared on the bench and was ultimately an unused substitute. He currently only has one other appearance for the first team, which was also as an unused substitute against English Premiership side Fulham.
England Under-16
Danny Wilson was not the only person to notice Henshall's great performances in the Milk Cup, because Head Coach Kenny Swain was also keeping an eye on the youngster for a possible call-up to his squad for the Victory Shield. He was subsequently called up to the squad for the competition and made his international debut in England's first match against Wales on 15 October 2009. He was brought on at the end of the first half and seemed to make an immediate impact, he also set up the only goal of the game.
