Maestro Alex Gregory, is a composer, shred guitarist and mandolinist, and an instrument designer. Biography Gregory grew up in Windsor, near London where he developed an interest in electric guitar and "shred metal". In a 1992 interview Gregory described spending time playing with members of Emerson, Lake & Palmer, Jake Bruce, Focus, members of Yes and Jethro Tull in various offshoot bands. In 1992, he released his first album Paganini's Last Stand on Priority Records. Gregory's second release 12 Jokes on Heavy Metal Mandolin, chiefly featured the electric mandolin. His subsequent release The Holy Grail of Seven Strings chiefly featured the seven-string Stratocaster that he had designed with Fender in 1988. 12 Jokes for Heavy Metal Mandolin was later reissued as 13 Jokes on Heavy Metal Mandolin. Instrument designs According to the documentation available through the US Patent Office, Gregory received two "utility" patents for the Seven-String Electric Guitar and several five-stringed instruments. He signed a deal with Fender in 1987 to develop a seven-string version of the Stratocaster that featured a high A string. Prototypes of this guitar were built and it was demonstrated at the 1988 NAMM show.
