Alex Donahue

Alex Donahue is an internationally recognized Designer, Architect and Educator, most noted for product design. His work, titled "Pride Watch" was awarded the gold medal at the 2020 International Design Awards in addition, the design won the acclaimed 2020 . Donahue has also won the Italian based A' Design award and longlisted in the wearable design category of Dezeen Awards 2021. When asked about his design approach, Donahue explained, "I care about concepts or ideas that resonate with people, as many people as possible, and I enjoy approaching creative work in this way. Whether it is a wristwatch or a city block, I try to ask the big questions first, regardless of scale."
Career
Donahue began his career working in New York City at SITE as a protégé of noted artist James Wines and collaborated with Wines on several architectural and product designs, including the Terra Time Watch series. Donahue went on to practice at several internationally renowned architecture firms, including: I.M. Pei, Skidmore Owings and Merrill, and the firm founded by Michael Graves. Donahue contributed to the Daily Collegian as an editorial cartoonist, he also created public artwork in State College, PA during his time there.
Lecturing
Donahue currently lectures at George Washington University in the Corcoran School of the Arts and Design. and The University of Maryland He was awarded the 2020 Outstanding Teaching Award. Donahue serves as Vice President on the Architecture Alumni Board of Directors for the Penn State College of Arts and Architecture.
