History
Albany Strength opened for business on March 21, 1996 as a sports supplement retailer and small personal training business by J. Payette and A. Price. Later that year, C. Reynolds came on as partner and store manager. One full year of sales made out of their homes, as well as gym sales, led to the opening of a small retail store on Sand Creek Road inside former Colonie Athletic Club. Another move shortly after to Wolf Road, the former Fitness Factory, was the home of Albany Strength until September 1998. Another move found the store located at 212 Western Avenue in Albany, where it grew a large following. January 2002 brought its final move to 332 Central Avenue Albany, and a new partner, physical education teacher A. Eastman, to the now renamed Albany Strength Gym XXXL.
In its current location on Central Avenue in Albany, NY, Albany Strength Gym XXXL has held and holds numerous power lifting competitions (17 to date), and smaller inner gym competitions, also Strong Man events and a few seminars.
