Biography
Alan "Battman" Batt was born in Canarsie in Brooklyn, New York City, United States in 1947. At 19, he moved to Manhattan Beach, California where his cousin got him an interview as a salesman for Mattel. After a year working for Mattel, he became an independent sales representative, selling greeting cards, magnets, and other stationary. His photography career began three years later when he decided to move to New York and take pictures of the city for greeting cards. With little to no competition for greeting cards, Alan was finding success in photography. However, with the advent of the internet, he found himself slowly starting to lose his customer base and was forced to find something new to take pictures of. When he was 54 years old, Alan began his career in food photography at Tribeca Grill in Tribeca, Manhattan. Since then, he has self-published several books showcasing his work and has worked in tandem with chefs across the United States and abroad to provide top of the line photographs of their dishes for their cookbooks.
