Al Azif

Al Azif (Jiar Garmiani) is a Swedish record producer and DJ. He has taken his name from the fictional book "Necronomicon" from the works of H.P. Lovecraft, but Al Azif also means "he who plays the music" in Arabic. Al Azif is an ethnic Kurd, and was born in 1983 in the Kurdish part of Iran, where he spent the first years of his life. He fled to Sweden together with his family in 1990 because of the Iran-Iraq War.
After a short undergound career as a rapper and producer in the hip hop duo Pennybridge Kingz, Al Azif turned his attention towards music production and DJ:ing full time. He has since delivered production for the likes of Medina and the Danish rapper Ali Kazim.
The breakthrough came in early 2008 with the remix of Adam Tenstas "My Cool", from the album "It's a Tensta thing". The remix featured Dr Alban on the hook, and was very well received on international music blogs, among DJs in Sweden and internationally, and on YouTube, accumulating 700.000 views so far. The next two remixes, Adam Tensta's "Dopeboy" and Crossfire's "Lady" made both similar impacts, and catapulted Al Azif from small-town obscurity to the public eye.
In 2008, "Dopeboy" was featured on the front page of the newspaper Aftonbladet's website , the biggest website in Sweden. It was the only music video to receive front page covarage in the history of Aftonbladet, and "Lady" was put in heavy rotation by Swedish radio and TV station The Voice, peaking at #1 on their top 20 chart. In October 2009, a spanish version of Lady featuring DJ Mendez was released in Chile where the record label decided to release Al Azif's remix as the original version.
With little or no help of booking agencies or record companies, Al Azif has managed to accumulate over four million Youtube-views and be on constant tour since summer 2008. As a DJ, Al Azif is best known for his energetic and eclectic DJ-sets. He has played in 40 cities in Sweden, Russia, Hungary, Poland, Norway and Cyprus and has been the opening act for stars such as Wayne Wonder and David Guetta.
