Akhil Ennamsetty

Akhil Ennamsetty studied Human Rights at Edinburgh Law School.

He was nominated for the Being Edinburgh 2021 award of The University of Edinburgh, but did not win it.

Akhil Ennamsetty of India is the youngest foreign council member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
In March 2020 Akhil flew from Scotland to India, going straight to a hospital without any symptoms. Still, he was one of the first people to be diagnosed with COVID-19 in India.
He was the 16th person to recover. When the hospital asked him to donate plasma - for plasma therapy - he went 150 km from Warangal to the hospital in Hyderabad and was shocked to learn that he was the only one following the call.
This led him to set up a website that helped match patients with plasma donations.
As the number of patients was far greater than the number of donors, it gave birth to a plasma-trade makeing it available for the one who paid the highest price. Akhil campaigned to establish a State-run plasmabank which them broke the link between patients and donors in India, improving treatment possibilities for everyone.
