2005
* July - Audition for AKB48 held.
* December 8 - AKB48's debut performance held at the AKB48 Theater.
2006
* January - Mariko Shinoda added as a member.
* February 1 - 1st indie single "Sakura no Hanabiratachi" released.
* March 31 - Yuki Usami graduated.
* April 1 - Team K's debut performance held at the AKB48 Theater.
* June 7 - 2nd indie single "Skirt, Hirari" released.
* June 17 - Ayako Uemura graduated.
* August - Major record contract with DefStar Records signed.
* October 25 - 1st major single "Aitakatta" released.
* October - Audition for Team B announced.
* November 3-4 - AKB48's first concert held at Nippon Seinenkan.
2007
* January 31 - 2nd single "Seifuku ga Jama o Suru" released.
* March 2 - AKB48's second photobook AKB48 Jump & Cry released.
* March 10 - AKB48's second concert tour AKB48 Haru no Chotto dake Zenkoku Tour: Madamada daze AKB48! starts.

* July 1 - Performance at Anime Expo, at Nokia Theatre.
* July - Erena Ono's graduation announced.
* July 14 - Album Set List: Greatest Songs 2006-2007 re-released as Set List: Greatest Songs Kanzenban.
* August 18 - 17th single "Heavy Rotation" released.
* September 27 - Erena Ono graduated.
* October 23 - AKB48 performs at the 7th Asia Song Festival, held at the Seoul Olympic Stadium.
* October 27 - 18th single "Beginner" released.
* November 20 - AKB48 performs in Moscow, Russia at the Japanese Pop Culture Festival.
* December 8 - 19th single "Chance no Junban" released.
2011
* February - Graduation announcement of YÅ«ki Kanazawa and Manami Oku.
* February 16 - 20th single "" released.
* February 21 - Album Koko ni Ita Koto announced to be released on April 6.
* April 1 - Charity single "Dareka no Tame ni (What Can I Do for Someone?)" released.
* April 8 - Manami Oku graduated.
* May 5 - Announcement of creation of sister group HKT48.
* May 25 - 21st single "Everyday, Katyusha" released.
* June 7 - Team 4 announced.
* June 8 - Album Koko ni Ita Koto released.
* June 11 - Aimi Eguchi's joining AKB48 announced.
* June 19 - Trainees Nau Yamaguchi and Sara Ushikobu leave the group.
* June 28 - Nogizaka46's creation announced.
* July 23 - Mina Oba becomes captain of Team 4. Trainees Maria Abe and Anna Iriyama join Team 4.

2012
* February 5 - Rumi Yonezawa & Natsumi Hirajima left AKB48

* March 24 - Yasushi Akimoto announced on his decision to create Team 8.
* March 25 - Atsuko Maeda announced her decision to graduate.
* March 26 - AKB48 27th senbatsu election announced.
* April 4 - Atsuko Maeda announced her withdrawal from AKB48 27th single senbatsu election.
* May 23 - 26th single "" released.
* June 20 - Rino Sashihara transferred to HKT48
* August 24/25/26 - AKB48 1st Tokyo Dome Concert (1830m no Yume) - 2nd AKB48 Team Shuffle: Team 4 disbanded, Minami Takahashi became AKB48 Group General Director (Soukantoku).
* August 27 - Atsuko Maeda graduated.
