Air Vardar was a short-lived airline based in Skopje, Macedonia. It had wanted to fly to a range of destinations, including Basel and Graz, but was refused permission due to the semi-monopoly position of MAT Macedonian Airlines. History The airline was established in 2003 by Mergimi travel agents and Swiss and German investors and planned to have two McDonnell Douglas MD-82 and two Fokker 50 aircraft in operation to destinations including Albania, Austria, Croatia, Germany, Italy, Serbia, Switzerland, Turkey and the United Kingdom. In early 2004 the airline had still not taken off, despite leasing a Fokker 100 aircraft, having been prevented by MAT Macedonian Airlines with their monopoly in the Macedonian airline market. Fleet The Air Vardar fleet consisted of one Fokker 100 aircraft (Z3-AAE) leased in October 2003 from Montenegro Airlines and returned in April 2004 without having been put into service.
