Afton Live

Afton Live (sometimes referred to simply as Afton) is an U.S music company that operates in over thirty-five U.S venues. The company was founded in 2004 by Daniel Robertson and Ryan Kintz under the name "Big Time Entertainment".
Services
Afton Live produces concerts by dealing with venues across the United States. They then recruit local musicians (usually from music related social networking websites) to play the shows. They offer services to musicians free of charge, but pay the artists a share of a show's profits. Tickets to Afton shows cost an average of $10.00 each.
They also provide online resources for struggling musicians.
History of Controversy
There have been accusations leveled against the company for being a "pay to play" scam , which involves tricking musicians out of their money to play in sub-par venues (bars, etc) on bad nights. They have been accused of being an unnessicary "middle man" when artists could just approach a club or venue directly.
After several complaints, Wig-Out.com posted an investigation of the company (then known as Big Time Entertainment) and made a conclusion that they were a scam.
Afton has maintained that they are a legitiment business and were simply a smaller company with smaller resources when they were known as Big Time Entertainment. In addition, Ryan Kintz has called the Wig-Out page "misleading" and personally defended the company on a CD Baby page.
An artist who played several Afton shows, known as Von Wheelie has been a frequent critic.
Klintz, who once considered Von Wheelie one of his favorite artists to work with, said of him
“He called us a scam. We don’t appreciate it. We don’t deceive our bands and we’re not dishonest. The definition of scam is to deceive and be dishonest. We don’t do that.”
