Adriana Mugnatto-Hamu

Adriana Mugnatto-Hamu, (born Adriana Mugnatto on September 17, 1964) is an environmental activist and the Green Party of Canada candidate for the Toronto—Danforth riding in the 41st Canadian federal election. She is the Climate Change Critic for the Green Party of Canada and a mother of five children.
Background
Born in Brazil, Mugnatto-Hamu grew up in Toronto.
Mugnatto-Hamu studied anthropology at the University of Toronto, including a year of study with native Kaingang and Guarani in Brazil.
Activism
Mugnatto-Hamu chaired the Cabbagetown-Riverdale Amnesty International group from 2006 to 2010.
Her 2006 feature article in the Toronto Star "Storage: The next generation" argued that it wasn't necessary to build the Portlands Energy Centre when "the technology exists to store excess megawatts".
In 2007, Mugnatto-Hamu joined Donna Dillman on her hunger strike to protest uranium mining in eastern Ontario.
As a member of Post Carbon Toronto, Mugnatto-Hamu helped organize Pledge TO Green, in which the city's municipal candidates were challenged to "pledge to implement Toronto's Environmental Plan". Pledge-signers included David Miller, then running for reelection as Mayor of Toronto. Later, she became a member of Post Carbon Toronto's executive committee. Post Carbon Toronto is an outpost affiliate of the Post Carbon Institute, with the stated goal of transitioning Toronto into a sustainable, low energy future, based on concerns about peak oil and climate change.
Mugnatto-Hamu walked from Toronto to Ottawa in 2008 as part of the Sunshine Walk, to promote the Kyoto Protocol.
Mugnatto-Hamu conceived and organized in Toronto, which ran from August 13 to 15, 2010 and featured talks by specialists including Bill McKibben and Andrew Weaver.
At the conference, Mugnatto-Hamu spoke on carbon pricing options and nuclear power.
Politics
In 2006, at the time Elizabeth May resigned as Executive Director of the Sierra Club Canada to contest the Leadership of the Green Party of Canada, Mugnatto-Hamu was CEO of the Toronto—Danforth Green Party riding association. She later accepted the nomination to become candidate in the 41st Canadian federal election. She is considered an underdog as she is running against a party leader.
In 2009 she started door-to-door canvassing in order to establish a greater connection with the community.
Based on her "knowledge and enthusiasm" on the subject she was appointed to sit on Green Party of Canada Shadow Cabinet as Climate Change Critic in 2009.
As part of a delegation representing the Green Party of Canada, Mugnatto-Hamu attended the 2010 United Nations Climate Change Conference in Cancún, Mexico.
During the 2011 Canadian federal elections, Mugnatto-Hamu was blocked from placing political ads in TTC subway stations.
