Adaptive functioning

Adaptive functioning is a term that refers to the skillset necessary for humans to effectively manage demands by ones environment in a manner that is effective. It includes skills such as our ability to communicate with one another. Verbally expressing ones thoughts, comprehending other's comments and dealing with written material are all uses of adaptive functioning. Another important component of adaptive functioning involves the skills necessary for one to get through basic daily life, in abilities such as caring for hygiene and health, completing home-based tasks at an average quality for their age, arriving at work or school, and caring for hygiene and health, beit applying bandages or eating healthy.
Social skills are also an important component of adaptive functioning, involving our ability to develop mutually beneficial relationships with others, our range of interests and how we deal with our community.<ref name="adv psy" />
