Programming
99.9 The Beat began broadcasting on December 26, 2008 as the replacement of Blazin 97. The station is owned and operated by Justin Dowdy, the CEO of JTJ Web Group, LLC. Prior to December 26, 2008 the station was Rhythmic Top 40 as "Blazin 97" (June 08 - December 08). In late November 2008 the station announced it would be changing names to 99.9 The Beat in December 2008 and that it would go from Rhythmic Top 40 to Rhythmic Contemporary.
The station now focuses on the newset urban music, and they also play the biggest hits from recent years, which they also did as "Blazin 97".
Unlike a terrestial radio station, not all of the music they play is clean, however a good chunk of it is. They are commerical free, instead the station makes money from selling ad slots on their website and from private funding.
The station heavily promotes how they broadcast from Boston, Massachusetts due to the fact that Boston is the largest radio market in the country without an urban formatted station as of August 2006 (Boston is the 11th biggest radio market in the country). With there being no vacant frequencies available in metro Boston, if Boston wanted a new Hip Hop station it would have to be online. So, that's just what happened. Airstaff include Justin, Dj So Smooth (real name Mark), and Eric from Vip Radio Chico. Syndicated programming includes Dj Sean & Dj Leanne's Weekly Top 40 on Sunday Mornings at 7 EST and The UK Invasion with Chris, Saturday Nights at 10 EST The station also plans to launch their own morning show in February 2009, but hosts or any other information hasn't been released.
