8 Blacks prayer hall

The 8 Blacks prayer hall is a Muslim prayer hall or small mosque in Melbourne, Australia frequented by immigrants from Somalia. As of 2009, 8 Blacks was housed in a former Snookers hall located behind a 7-Eleven store on Boundary Road, in North Melbourne.
The mosque is regarded by authorities as a key hub in Australia's militant islamist network. All five men accused in the Holsworthy Barracks terror plot had been part of the same religious "reading group" at the small mosque.
Australian authorities believe that the the imams of the mosques are not directly involved in preaching hatred of Australia and other western countries, but they do allow small groups of young Islamists to use the mosques as a base for what is known as tableeq. Tableeq is a late-night vigil with traditional Wahabi recitals of religious texts; but jihad and the 'ills of Western culture' are also promoted. Moderates in the Somali community tell journalists that they are powerless to prevent such teachings taking place.<ref name="australian2" />
