2023 Boeing P-8 Poseidon runway overrun

On November 20, 2023, a Boeing P-8A Poseidon operated by the United States Navy overran the runway and ditched into the . All nine crew members evacuated the aircraft and swam to shore, uninjured. The aircraft damage is substantial and its airworthiness is still being evaluated to determine if it can be restored to operational condition.
Aircraft
The aircraft involved was a Boeing P-8A Poseidon, registered as 169561 with serial number 66094. It was manufactured by Boeing Commercial Airplanes in 2020 and was powered by two CFM International CFM56-7B27E engines.
Accident
The military aircraft touched down on runway 22 with a tailwind of 21 knots. The weather conditions were rainy and cloudy, with visibility reduced to one mile. The accident is currently under investigation.
Aftermath
Before recovery
Before recovery, oil containment booms, which control the spread of oil, had been set up around the Poseidon.
After recovery
On December 2, a team of the United States Navy, Marine Corps, and some contractors successfully recovered the Poseidon using inflatable salvage roller bags. The Poseidon is currently being inspected to determine whether it can be restored to operational condition or if it should be deemed a write-off.<ref name":3" /><ref name":0" />
