On May 29, 2025, a Lockheed P-3CK Orion operated by the Republic of Korea Navy (ROKN) crashed during a routine training flight shortly after takeoff from Pohang Air Base, killing all four crew members on board. The accident occurred in a forested area of Sinjeong-ri, near residential neighborhoods. The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Accident The aircraft departed Pohang Air Base at approximately 13:43 KST for a scheduled training flight involving takeoff and landing circuits. It crashed roughly six minutes later, around 13:49, striking trees and terrain between two civilian structures. Video footage captured the aircraft descending rapidly with its landing gear extended. Initial statements by the Ministry of National Defense and South Korea’s Navy suggested no distress calls were made prior to the crash. Weather conditions were favorable. Victims All four crew members aboard were killed. This included two commissioned officers (a major and a captain) and two non-commissioned officers. Their remains were recovered, and the Ministry of Defense announced that military funerals would be held, with interment at the Daejeon National Cemetery.<ref name="YNA1" />
