On Sunday, April 18, 2021, a shooting occurred at the Arboretum Oaks Apartments near The Arboretum shopping center in Austin, Texas. The suspect, Stephen Nicholas Broderick, a former Travis County Sheriff's Office detective, was arrested after a 20-hour manhunt. Austin emergency services responded to the scene around 11:42 a.m. CT, where they found the three victims, who were pronounced dead at the scene. The victims included two women and a man. The police believe the incident was targeted, but advised residents of the area to shelter in place. A child was reported to be involved in the scene and was found safe by police. Victims The three victims include Broderick's ex-wife, his adoptive daughter, and his daughter's boyfriend. Suspect Stephen Nicholas Broderick, 41, is a former Travis County Sheriff's Office detective arrested in connection with the killing of three people. On Apr 19, 2021, he was arrested while walking on the side of a road in Manor, Texas, and was booked into the Travis County Jail. He was placed on administrative leave before resigning his position at the Travis County Sheriff's Office. Broderick was on bond at the time of the shooting, which was revoked on that day.
