2014 Knox County Commission Races

Knox County Commission Elections 2014
Districts Up for Election:
County Commission District 3
County Commission District 7
County Commission Seat 10 At-Large
County Commission Seat 11 At-Large
Commission District 3 holds now term-limited Commissioner Tony Norman, who will be unable to run for re-election. There are currently no announced candidates for the seat. Speculated Candidates included, but are not limited to:
Knox County Public Records Commission Chairperson and Former Commissioner Wanda Moody. Wanda Moody is a Republican.
Knox County Commission District 7 has now term-limted Commissioner Robert Lawerence Smith. District 7 has had the closest election in Knox County for the past eight years. In fact, since 2002, no candidate has garnered over 50% in the Republican primary.
Speculated Candidates include 2010 candidate, 2000 Business Woman of the Year, and Powell Republican Party President Lillian Williams. Lillian Williams recieved less than 21% of the vote in the 2010, more than some experts expected.
Former Commissioner Michele Carringer is also a speculated candidate, however there is also speculation that she will run for an at-large seat. If Carringer chooses to run she is the presumptive front-runner. Carringer is a Republican, who has also served as Fountain City Republican Party President.
Former Commissioner Scott Moore, and 2006 County Clerk candidate who was ousted from the commission on ethics violation is also thought to make another run. He ran as an independent in 2010, but he is a registed Republican.
Zach Wishart has said that, "He is definently interested." Pudits say it would be an uphill battle due to his age, he would be only 20 in 2014, despite a large support base four years in advance.
A hypothetical poll was conducted for District 7. Wishart and Williams tied for first, both with 26%. Former Commission Scott Moore was able to garner 16% of the vote. The remaining 32% said they are undecided.
Both at-large seats have term-limited Commissioners.
Former Commissioners Bud Armstrong and Michele Carringer are the only two prospective candidates for the two at-large seats.
