2009 UCLA throat slashing

The 2009 UCLA throat slashing was an attack on a student at the University of California, Los Angeles. The Associated Press reports that "students and faculty at UCLA are stunned following a horrific attack in a campus chemistry lab in which a male student allegedly slashed the throat of a female student." Damon Thompson of the country of Belize was arrested as a suspect on suspicion of attempted murder.
This is notable because it was reported worldwide in multiple reliable sources.
The UCLA community was shocked because of this, where a student was stabbed multiple times, including in the neck, during a chemistry lab class. Lab classes were canceled the next day and counselors were available for students.
NBC reports that his second cousin, Akilah Williams, "said she was skeptical that Thompson was capable of the attack"<ref name="msnbc" />
