1 GAME

1 GAME is a non-profit organization founded in June 2010 to promote peaceful coexistence among followers of diverse football interest. It is funded by Public Donation. The Foundation creates public service campaigns to communicate its message on football fanaticism and it negative effect on people. Viewers are encouraged to appreciate the game of football and see the game as a medium of peace not violence. The organization communicates its message through television, outdoor advertising, theatre, radio, and the Internet.
History
Founded in June 2010 by Philip Obaji Jnr. and was made up of mainly friends and associates. In August of the same year, The Organization launched its initial campaign with an independent programme focusing on football fanaticism on AKBC-TV in the city of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. In November 2008, 1 GAME began her first street campaign against fanaticism at the Hope Waddell Training Institution, Calabar. The venue of the campaign is historical for being the first ground where football was first played in Nigeria in 1903. Thereafter, professional football representatives including ex-internationals Jonathan Akpoborie and Henry Nwosu became part of the campaigns that proceeded in the same month.
In July 2009, The 1 GAME campaign took a new turn when a novelty game between Nigeria and African football legends saw an unprecedented Crowd filed the main-bowl of the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos with a banner portraying the 1 GAME campaign slogan ‘Unite Against Fanaticism’ . Barely a year after, The founder of 1 GAME Philip Obaji Jnr. decided to front the campaign for peace using a more unique name depicting the essence of football which revolves around fair play. The campaign was now called 1 GAME.
Since its creation on 1 June 2010, 1 GAME has steadily grown and developed to be credible peace seeking organization, focusing on informing and educating youths involved in football followership on the dangers of negative fanaticism in the game.
1 GAME is based in Calabar but its activities is expanded to all the states of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and beyond. Its mission is to ensure that common or extreme passion for football does not lead to violence. Its advocacy program has national reach and its video campaign message tagged ‘Speak and Save a Life’ is been aired on selected media stations across the country and online media station.
A good number of people across the world including prominent football stars and celebrities are joining to support the initiative.
