Zeotap

Zeotap is a German software company that develops a customer data platform (CDP) for enterprise organizations. Founded in 2014 and headquartered in Berlin, the company provides software for customer data unification, identity resolution, consent management, and audience activation. Its platform is designed to help organizations consolidate first-party customer data while complying with privacy regulations such as the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

History

Zeotap was founded in Berlin in 2014 by Daniel Heer and Projjol Banerjea, both of whom had previously worked in the telecommunications and mobile advertising industries. The company's original business focused on enabling mobile network operators to monetize anonymized customer data for advertisers while maintaining user privacy.

In August 2015, Zeotap announced a US$6.4 million Series A funding round led by Capnamic Ventures and Iris Capital. The company stated that the investment would be used to expand its engineering team and establish a presence in the United States.

In January 2017, the company raised €12 million in a Series B funding round led by New Science Ventures and HERE Technologies. At the time, Zeotap announced plans to expand beyond telecommunications data by allowing additional enterprises to securely monetize and manage customer data while maintaining privacy protections.

During the late 2010s, the company shifted its strategy from telecommunications-based audience data toward enterprise customer data management. This transition accelerated as digital marketers prepared for the deprecation of third-party cookies and increasing regulatory requirements surrounding consumer privacy.

In 2020, Zeotap announced an additional US$18.5 million investment from SignalFire to expand its privacy-focused customer intelligence platform and identity resolution technology. By that time, the company had expanded its operations beyond Germany to include offices in the United States, India, and the United Kingdom.

In 2021, Zeotap raised an additional US$11 million in a Series C extension to support further international growth and continued development of its identity platform, ID+.
