Ypulse

Ypulse is a blog that is published by Anastasia Goodstein, and was launched in May of 2004 to provide daily news and commentary AbOUT Generation Y for media and marketing professionals.

About

Ypulse was created to be a forum for professionals working in both commercial teen media and marketing as well as in the non-profit youth media space. In a post explaining the philosophy behind Ypulse, Goodstein wrote: “I've worked in both sectors and I don't think they have to be adversarial or mutually exclusive. I believe they can learn from each other. The marketers and commercial media can help the .orgs reach a wider audience and youth media can add authenticity and credibility to marketers' efforts to reach youth.”

Ypulse features observations, marketing information, and features about youth media. One can also get daily tips and insights into the teenage mind from the site. Many of the readers of Ypulse are teen magazine editors, entertainment industry executives, public relations executives, and marketing executives. Ypulse can also benefit anyone who is interested in gaining insight into youth culture including teachers, librarians, youth ministers, psychologists, academics and teens.

Ypulse has over 5,000 daily readers who either visit the site, subscribe to posts via email or RSS, and has over 19 categories to peruse from Advertising to Hispanic Youth Marketing.

In September of 2006, Goodstein left her full-time job at Current TV to pursue Ypulse full time. Since then, the blog has expanded to include offline networking events in different cities called Ypulse Teen Media Mashups where readers of the blog can meet each other and listen to experts speak on different topics such as teen magazines or action sports.

Ypulse has been featured in Fast Company, Forbes, USA Today, BusinessWeek, and the San Francisco Chronicle. The San Francisco Chronicle reported that “Ypulse has become a must-read for fans, from Seventeen magazine's editor in chief, Atoosa Rubenstein, and Aaron Cohen, chief executive of teen marketing powerhouse Bolt, to youth ministers and librarians trying to gain insight into youth culture.” Fast Company said that Ypulse is a blog that offers insight and inspiration for innovation. Forbes said that Ypulse has links to information on teens that marketers should check weekly. USA Today wrote that pros targeting teens are very interested in the site, and BusinessWeek wrote that Ypulse is a must read for corporate movers and shakers eager to gain an insight into the mercurial world of youth culture.
