YIKES Atlanta was HOT!
I was a guy. Yeah, just a guy who lived in Atlanta and experienced the great stuff happening in the day. First were the Beatnicks and then the Hippies who were driven away to Frisco by the APD who were not friendly to all the hip generation. I printed THE GREAT SPECKLED BIRD for a bit and it was a clandestine sorta thing. Fortunately I was able to get program printing for my little company from other venues which placed me in a position to get to see/watch a lot of talent, local and international, up close. Favs were The Great Southeast Music Hall. Very cool and what happened to that type of venue??? I think it is way past time to reinvent the Great Southeast Music Hall. Lots of talent in Atlanta, locals. Whipperrrr, Darrell Rhoades. can you say that name without a giggle? Some you dont know bcause theywere behind the scenes but famous in their own way. 3 dogs road manager, david gates road manager was a local and he was friends with everyone in the business. I dare not mention his name bcause he is incognito these days and loving it. Wish I knew where some of the people went. Johnny Winter's ex was a really close pal and I dont have a clue. I know someone who St. Jimi gave two studio tapes to because he didnt like them and they are still locked away, UNHEARD. WOWOWOW. Couldnt have been a better time to grow up than the 60s 70s and in Atlanta. Was blessed by the Great Spirit. Wouldnt do it over again any other way. Groovey man...lol
