Yeyo (musician)

Yeyo}} Diego Isaac Díaz Gutiérrez (born 1 April 2000), known professionally as Yeyo, is a Mexican singer and songwriter from Zacatepec, Morelos. He is associated with the Reggaeton Mexa and Latin urban music scenes. After initially recording electronic and alternative music, he adopted the name Yeyo and moved into Latin urban music in 2019. Yeyo gained broader recognition through collaborations including "B de Bellako" with El Malilla and DJ Rockwel MX and "En el Ghetto #5 (La Discoteca)" with Ghetto Kids, as well as unreleased demos with Gone Thursday and Bellakath that gained virality In 2024, he was nominated for Reggaeton Artist of the Year at the MTV MIAW Awards, while "B de Bellako" received a nomination for Viral Anthem. His 2025 project latinpapichuggstar was placed at number 23 on Pitchfork{{'s}} list of the best rap albums of 2025.

Early life and musical beginnings

Díaz Gutiérrez is originally from Zacatepec, Morelos. He has said that he grew up around artistic influences: his father played guitar and sang, while members of his mother's family were involved in music, writing and poetry. At approximately 12 years old, he began making electronic dance music and dubstep and learned to play drums and guitar. He later published some of his early recordings online. During this period, he used the names Isaac and Isaacruel and recorded alternative and electronic music. His songs "Seventeen Club" and "El hombre perro" received radio airplay during this stage of his career. Yeyo has said that he learned music production through online tutorials and initially drew inspiration from electronic musician Skrillex. His stage name developed from a childhood mispronunciation of his given name, Diego, which became a nickname used by his relatives and friends.

Career

2019–2022: Transition to reggaeton

In 2019, Díaz Gutiérrez left his earlier alternative-music projects and began recording Latin urban music as Yeyo. His early recordings under the name included "Deprimido en la fiesta", "La mala vida", "Bendecido" and "Maldad". In a 2024 interview, he said that he began treating the project as a professional career by concentrating on regularly releasing and promoting singles. He subsequently began working with music-industry representative Luis Díaz, who helped him obtain festival appearances and professional connections.

2023–2024: Collaborations and MTV MIAW nominations

Yeyo appeared at the Coca-Cola Flow Fest for the first time in 2023 and returned to its lineup in 2024. His recordings during this period included "Tentación", "En el Ghetto #5 (La Discoteca)" with Ghetto Kids and "B de Bellako" with El Malilla and DJ Rockwel MX. In December 2023, three recordings featuring Yeyo were included in a list of the 50 best Mexican urban songs of the year. "En el Ghetto #5 (La Discoteca)" ranked seventh, "Tentación" ninth and "B de Bellako" twenty-sixth. A remix of "B de Bellako" featuring Puerto Rican duo Jowell & Randy was later recorded. Yeyo said that the duo had been his preferred choice for the remix and that the collaboration was arranged through his representative. At the 2024 MTV MIAW Awards, Yeyo received a nomination for Reggaeton Artist of the Year. "B de Bellako" was also nominated for Viral Anthem. Other collaborations released during this period included "Mami Chakalosa" with Bellakath and "Préndete" with El Malilla and producer Ezya.

2024–2025: La Obsesión Factory and solo projects

During 2024, Yeyo became one of the leading members of La Obsesión Factory, a Mexican reggaeton collective established to promote emerging artists from the State of Mexico. Its members and collaborators included singer Doony Graff, producer Ezya and singer Novato El Flow. The collective formed part of Mexico's independent and underground reggaeton scene, with imagery and production influenced by earlier periods of the genre. In April 2025, Yeyo released the six-track extended play Tu Put4 Obsesi0n. The project is primarily rooted in reggaeton and incorporates elements of punk rock, bachata and melancholic pop. It was produced by Ezya. He was also included in the announced lineup for the 2025 AXE Ceremonia festival in Mexico City. Later in 2025, Yeyo released the self-released project latinpapichuggstar. The project ranked number 23 on a list of the year's 32 best rap albums. It combines first-generation plugg production with melodic vocals and influences from reggaeton and Mexican drill music.

2026: Suspension of La Obsesión Factory and return to music

In February 2026, members of La Obsesión Factory ended their professional association with Yeyo and suspended the collective's activities after a former partner publicly accused him of emotional and physical abuse. Yeyo denied using physical violence, while acknowledging that some of his conduct during the relationship may have been inappropriate. After a period away from public activity, Yeyo announced the single "amor, cómo ESTÁS???", scheduled for release on May 30, 2026.

Musical style

Yeyo's work is primarily associated with reggaeton and Latin urban music. Before moving into reggaeton, he recorded electronic, dubstep, rock and alternative music, and has cited Skrillex as an influence on his early production work. His later music has incorporated styles outside conventional reggaeton. Tu Put4 Obsesi0n moves between reggaeton, punk-influenced rock, bachata and melancholic pop. latinpapichuggstar incorporates influences from Puerto Rican reggaeton, plugg, internet rap and Mexican drill.
