XWA Tag Team Championship

The British Tag Team Championship are the tag team titles contested for in the United Kingdom's XWA promotion. The titles were originally created and contested for in the Frontier Wrestling Alliance promotion.

The championship has been known as:

  • FWA (British) Tag Team Championship (2000 – 2007)
  • (XWA) British Tag Team Championship (2007 – current)

History

FWA's British Tag Team Titles were first decided after a tournament that ended on March 24, 2000 in Essex after The New Breed defeated the team of Jorge Castano and Scottie Rock in the final.

During 2003/4 title reigns of The Family, FWA allowed the team to utilize the Freebird Rule; meaning that any of The Family's members could defend the belts eventhough other members won the actual titles. However after The Family's title run, the FWA changed the rules to prevent anyone other than the designated championship-holding duo from defending the belts.

After the FWA lost the inter-promotional feud with IPW:UK and was forced to close, the promotion reopened as XWA and continued to recognise the titles.

Current champions

Currently, the titles are vacant after former champion Martin Stone, of Stixx & Stone, was unable to make a mandatory title defence at the FWA show on November 19 at Worcester, citing commitments to another UK promotion.
