Xi Omicron Iota

Xi Omicron Iota (ΞΟΙ) also known as Xi Om was founded February 2002 at Missouri State University in Springfield, Missouri on the ideals of loyalty, sisterhood, and friendship. Xi Omicron Iota is a local social sorority on Missouri State University's campus. Being local means they are the only chapter in existence and therefore governor themselves.

Founding of Xi Omicron Iota

In February 2002, the Student Government Association of Missouri State University approved Xi Omicron Iota's constitution, recognizing us as a Greek chapter on the Missouri State campus. The first recruitment was held March 2002, and had an overwhelming result. The first new-member class was composed of 22 women, ranging from freshmen to seniors. The campus community was extremely supportive of the decision to add a local sorority to Greek life on campus.

Their five founding mothers, Samantha Brown, Tracy Dailey, Brandei Harris, Helen Herschel, and LeAnn ODell, wanted the opportunity to offer the benefits of a sorority without live-in house requirements or the fees associated with a national office. With the help of Assistant Director to Greek life, Marissa LeClaire, and Assistant Director to Student Activities, Christa Coffey, Xi Omicron Iota was formed. Their chapter advisor Tammy Tindle continues her dedication to Xi Omicron Iota.

The name was created by two of the founding mothers, Tracy Dailey and Samantha Brown. They picked out the letters, did some research to make sure the same name wasn't taken by another organization, and decided on the resulting name. Each letter was then assigned a special meaning. The pronunciation of the letters is Zhi Omicron Iota, although it is spelled Xi Omicron Iota. This is the feminine pronunciation of Xi.
