X (Metroid enemy)

The X Parasite is a fictional organism from the Game Boy Advance game Metroid Fusion. They are an amoeba-like entity that possess the ability to absorb the DNA of other creatures to take on their appearance. X come in many forms and have different effects on Samus when she absorbs them.

Yellow X restore 10 Energy when touched. They can be exposed by defeating most enemy creatures.

When Samus collects a Green X, she will regain two Missiles. Green X are also found inside most enemies.

A Red X will completely replenish Samus's Energy and weapons. Red X are obtained by defeating the eye-like monsters that cover boss hatches, and by destroying certain types of enemies.

A special type of X, the Blue X, appears only in certain areas. Blue X thrive in freezing environments and will severely damage Samus if she touches one early in the game. Once she acquires the Varia Suit, Samus can touch Blue X to regain 30 Energy.

When Samus defeats a boss creature, a Core-X will be exposed. Core-X come in two varieties: one that simply floats around and chases Samus, and one that moves on a loose track and will fire a beam weapon at her. This type is vulnerable only in the eye that fires its weapon. Both types are vulnerable to Missiles. When defeated, the former type gives Samus one of her abilities, and the latter restores the particular beam weapon it possesses.

Early in the game, Samus encounters an X parasite that is mimicking herself, named the SA-X. According to the game's story, the SA-X was created when an X parasite absorbed DNA from a part of Samus's Power Suit. Because the SA-X possesses all of Samus's abilities, contact With It early in the game almost guarantees death.
