WWE Fantasy

WWE Fantasy was an online fantasy sports game located at World Wrestling Entertainment's official website at WWE.com that ended May 2007. The game was eligible to most citizens from the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom.

WWE announced the discontinuation of it's WWE Fantasy league on WWE.com.

Rules

After one signs up and creates an account (along with a team) the player was able to pick a roster of WWE Superstars. The player was given $30 million with which they could have built a roster any way they wish, and spend it on any Superstar from the RAW, SmackDown! or ECW rosters.

Each week the player's Superstars earned points based on their performances. The player could add and remove Superstars from their roster with the goal of trying to accumulate the most points for their team by the end of the contest. However, the roster moves usually must have been made by 7pm on Monday night for it to take effect for the current week. (The deadline sometimes used to be pushed back due to early TV tapings. See below.)

Notes

  • In Seasons 7 and 8, Todd Grisham hosted a weekly "Fantasy Webcast" detailing the events of the previous week and giving suggestions on how players could plan the upcoming week. In Season 9, the Fantasy Board stated that the webcast is "on hiatus" as it is being re-tooled.
  • Also beginning in Season 7, a WWE League was started. In the league, WWE Superstars put together their own teams and competed against each other. Some of the competitors were Grisham, Eugene, Gregory Helms, Matt Striker and Droz. Grisham was the WWE League Champion in Season 7. Eugene won Season 8. Grisham became a two-time Champion when he won Season 9.
  • During one the of the webcasts in Season 7, Todd Grisham interviewed a player with a team named "I hate wrestling" that held the top spot for many weeks. On an internet message board (located at http://forums.thesmartmarks.com and using the screenanem Scud) the player revealed that the interview was with another WWE staff member who explained the interview would be edited together to appear as though Todd was conducting it, even asking him to say "Todd". This is very similar to the production of Space Ghost Coast to Coast.
  • Seasons 1 and 2 required a registration fee. It was free after Season 3.
  • In all seasons prior to 8, the Fantasy Board would set early deadlines if a Raw or SmackDown was going to be taped on a different night (this usually occurred when SmackDown or Raw had a Sunday taping that coincided with an overseas tour). This practice exists to stop people who read taping results from cheating. While this early deadline did occur in week 2 of Season 8, no safeguard was put in place to avoid people maximizing points by using the results of previously taped ECW on Sci Fi results.
