Women's Fund of Central Indiana

Women’s Fund is a not-for-profit organization that engages people and organizations in bold and transformative philanthropy to create options and opportunities for women and girls in central Indiana.

Women’s Fund of Central Indiana was officially established in February 1996. It was created as a permanent endowment and is a special interest fund of Central Indiana Community Foundation.

During 1995 and early 1996, the founders of Women’s Fund studied the needs of central Indiana women and girls and how they could benefit from a women’s endowment. They issued a report titled, On Shaky Ground: Where Women and Girls Stand in Central Indiana. This document has been updated several times to reflect changing conditions.

The first Women’s Fund public event, a dinner attended by more than 1,000 people, was held in May 1996.

By 1999, Women’s Fund had raised over $4 million and gave its first grants of $5,000 each.

In 2005, Women’s Fund offered its first $50,000 grants to make a bold and transformative difference in each of its current funding priorities: caregiving, domestic violence and insufficient income.

In conjunction with its 10th anniversary in 2006, Women’s Fund awarded its largest grants ever, three multi-year grants of $150,000 each.

As of March 2007, Women’s Fund has awarded more than $2.4 million in grants to more than 70 different central Indiana women and girl-serving organizations. The endowment totals more than $10 million.
